Spellborne Launches Major Season 2 Update with New Monster Evolutions

TL;DR

  • Monster Evolutions: Season 2 adds four new Stage 3 mutations, Pixiu, Megabara, Lupin, and Nuking, each unlocked through PvP chest items, encouraging tactical combat and strategic progression.
  • Gameplay Points: The rebalanced system now rewards players based on PvP chest rarity and performance, shifting focus from grinding to skillful play and competitive engagement.
  • $BORNE Economy: Players can use $BORNE and other tokens to buy gold nuggets, speed up chest openings, and access guild perks, deepening Spellborne’s web3 integration.

Mon Studios has officially rolled out Season 2 of its free-to-play MMORPG, Spellborne, introducing sweeping changes to monster evolution, gameplay progression, and blockchain integration. Designed to reward skill over grind, the update rebalances point systems, adds strategic PvP incentives, and expands the game’s web3 economy. With new mutations and token-based mechanics, Spellborne continues to bridge traditional gaming with optional blockchain features.

Strategic Monster Evolutions and PvP Incentives

Season 2 introduces four new Stage 3 monster mutations: Pixiu, Megabara, Lupin, and Nuking. These evolutions are unlocked using specific items: Leaf Crown, Ribbon Bow, Crystal Flower, and Forced Upgradation Device, found in PvP chests. The update shifts progression toward competitive play, rewarding players who engage in PvP battles with access to rare items and strategic advantages. This evolution system adds depth to combat and encourages tactical engagement over repetitive grinding.

Rebalanced Gameplay Points System

A major overhaul to the gameplay points system now ties rewards to performance rather than time investment. Players earn points by opening PvP chests, with point values based on chest rarity. Catching monsters now yields only one point per catch, a significant reduction from previous mechanics. Points from the Task Board, Store, and Creator systems remain unchanged. Mon Studios aims to foster a more skill-based progression model, reducing the incentive for low-effort farming and emphasizing strategic gameplay.

Expanded Use of $BORNE and Gold Nuggets

Players can now purchase gold nuggets using ETH, USDC, or the game’s native $BORNE token. Those using staked $BORNE receive a 5% discount. PvP chests can also be exchanged for nuggets, and $BORNE can be used to accelerate chest openings. Initially available on the Avalanche network, these features will expand to Abstract. This deepens the game’s play-to-earn economy, offering flexible options for players to engage with blockchain mechanics while maintaining accessibility for traditional users.

NFT Minting and Guild-Driven Economies

Spellborne’s optional web3 layer allows players to mint collected monsters into NFTs and trade them on platforms like OpenSea. PvP leagues and seasonal events offer token-based rewards, while guilds play a central role in managing in-game marketplaces. Guild-controlled hubs generate transaction fees and offer exclusive perks, reinforcing communal gameplay and economic collaboration. With mobile access and a planned Epic Games Store release, Spellborne continues to grow its cross-platform presence.
