Aavegotchi Founder Proposes Full Migration from Polygon to Base

TL;DR

  • Pixelcraft Studios has decided to sunset Geist and fully migrate Aavegotchi to Base, leaving Polygon behind.
  • The migration aims to improve onboarding, increase accessibility, and ensure a better gaming experience for users.
  • Aavegotchi will continue to operate on Base, with all assets cloned and minted on the new chain, and users will reconnect via Base.

Pixelcraft Studios has decided to migrate the Aavegotchi protocol to the Base network, abandoning its development on the Geist protocol.

The main reason for this change is the lack of growth on the L3 network and the decrease in TVL on Polygon, which has made the prospects for Aavegotchi on that network unfavorable. The migration aims to improve accessibility and simplify the user experience, in addition to leveraging Base’s stronger ecosystem support and its relationship with Coinbase.

What Does Migrating Aavegotchi to Base Imply?

According to the proposal, Aavegotchi assets on Polygon will be frozen, and their contracts will be updated to prevent transfers or state adjustments. Subsequently, the assets will be cloned and transferred to Base, maintaining the integrity of Aavegotchis, wearables, badges, parcels, and other related items. This process will allow a smooth transition for end users, who will only need to reconnect their dapps to the new network.

The migration also includes an improvement in the user experience. Transactions on Base will be fast and secure, and a “wrapper” contract will be implemented to protect assets when listed on NFT marketplaces like OpenSea or MagicEden, preventing unexpected removals of items. Additionally, the GHST token will be consolidated as the primary reward token, eliminating the added complexity of additional tokenization.

This change will be implemented over a period of 4 to 6 weeks, with the expectation that all necessary migration work and testing will be completed by the time the CoreProp is approved. With this move, Pixelcraft Studios expects a significant improvement in the onboarding of new users and an increase in liquidity in the Aavegotchi ecosystem.
