Axie Infinity Confirms Economic Changes and New Assets for 2026

TL;DR

  • Sky Mavis is developing 3D accessories and weapons for the new game Atia’s Legacy.
  • The team will launch a bonded AXS token (bAXS) with dynamic redemption fees in Q1 2026.
  • A key goal is to reduce the existing surplus of 12 million Axies through increased burn mechanics.

In a recent virtual meeting, several members of the Sky Mavis team shared details on the direction of the Axie Infinity project. The conversation included visual progress for an upcoming game and announcements regarding the economics of the AXS token. Presenters Jase, Cruise, Shade, and Jaatster outlined plans set to begin in the early months of 2026.

A portion of the presentation showed progress on Atia’s Legacy, the game in development. Three-dimensional models for Axie accessories are now in production. The team is prioritizing Air and Ground-type accessories, redesigning them for a 3D environment. These items will have detailed models and scalable size. Their primary function will be cosmetic, though they may gain minor utility later. Weapons were also shown, such as a Lantern that players can throw.

An Aggressive Stance on Game Economics

Shade and Cruise addressed recent changes to the SLP token. They admitted that, in the past, fear of negative reactions led to small adjustments. Now, the company plans deeper modifications for 2026. The stated goal is to protect the long-term financial health of the treasury and the AXS token. This phase involves preparing the game for a new wave of users.

One concrete announcement is the creation of bAXS, a “bonded” version of AXS. Its launch is planned for the first quarter of 2026. This new token will maintain a 1:1 parity with AXS but cannot be traded between accounts. Players will earn it by completing quests or playing games, and can use it for breeding or evolution.

If a player decides to liquidate their bAXS, they will pay a fee to the treasury. The new detail is that the fee will be dynamic and based on account reputation. Players with a solid history, like Myth Keepers, will pay less. The system aims to benefit committed users and hinder automated operations.

Another critical point is the large number of existing Axies

There is currently a surplus of around 12 million creatures. The team is debating mechanics to reduce this number, increasing the burn rate of Axies. The idea is for owning an Axie to regain a sense of consequence within the game. These measures form part of a broad economic restructuring the team calls the era of “big swings.”
