TL;DR
- Moonfrost moves to Steam and removes all blockchain elements.
- Frost Arcade will be a new web3 platform for arcade games.
- The team will split to develop both platforms separately.
The development team for Moonfrost announced a major change in direction for the game. The cozy farming RPG will transition to the Steam platform as a traditional PC game. This move eliminates all blockchain elements, including non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and cryptocurrency integrations. The announcement followed the conclusion of the game’s Halloween event.
A separate platform called Frost Arcade will serve players interested in web3 gaming. Frost Arcade will operate through an internet browser and focus on arcade-style games with shorter session lengths. The platform will include multiplayer options, player-versus-player (PvP) modes, and cooperative play. Leaderboards and community events are also planned features.
Dual Development Paths and Asset Migration
The internal development team will divide its efforts to manage both projects. One group will develop the traditional Moonfrost version for Steam, while another group will focus on the Frost Arcade web3 platform. Holders of digital assets from the original Moonfrost game will retain utility for those items. Their NFTs and in-game currencies will continue to function within the Frost Arcade environment.

Leadership roles have been reassigned to oversee this new structure. Ric Moore, previously a co-CEO, will now lead the Frost Arcade project, while Gina Nelson, the former co-CEO and Art Director, will guide the development of the Steam version. This organizational shift aims to provide clear direction for both initiatives.
In October, Ric Moore commented on game economic models, describing traditional play-to-earn systems as having sustainability issues. He cited inflationary pressures and poor token performance as inherent problems. Moore proposed an alternative model called “Risk-to-Earn”, which requires players to pay an entry fee for the chance to earn payouts based on performance. The model seeks to create a more balanced in-game economy, and Frost Arcade may incorporate this economic structure into its final design.
