TL;DR
- The Sandbox will integrate CATALYSTs into all its official avatar collections.
- The migration will be adjusted to a four-tier system after receiving community feedback.
- The changes will be implemented gradually starting September 17 and will take 3 to 5 days.
The Sandbox has announced a update to its CATALYST ecosystem that will affect the first official avatar collections. The integration of CATALYSTs, initially implemented in December, will expand to include all official collections, ensuring they become an integral part of them. This migration process aims to maintain consistency between the avatars’ features and abilities in line with the ecosystem’s new standards.
After the first migration phase, which was based on five CATALYST levels, the community expressed confusion regarding the system, prompting The Sandbox to reconsider the structure. In response to the feedback, the platform has decided to return to a four-tier system that better aligns with player expectations and simplifies rarity classification. This update will also include an adjustment to the old collection tiers, which will now be linked to the new CATALYSTs, ranging from “Uncommon” to “Legendary,” while respecting the original rarity of each collection.
We've heard your feedback and are continuing to work on the migration of our older Official Avatar Collections to the CATALYSTs system. đź’Ž Why? We want to ensure ALL official avatar owners can enjoy the avatar benefits in future events.

Additionally, it has been reported that avatars from older collections will regain their original background colors as they were before the first migration. For those with custom backgrounds, these will now follow a color scheme based on the assigned CATALYST. For example, avatars that belonged to Tier 4, which previously had a gray background, will now feature an “Uncommon” CATALYST with a green background, reflecting their new category within the system.
The Sandbox Will Take 3 to 5 Days to Implement the Changes
The implementation of these changes began on September 17, 2024, and will be carried out gradually, updating one or two collections at a time. The entire process is expected to take between three and five days. Users will be able to follow the progress directly on The Sandbox website, although there may be delays in the update of external platforms, such as OpenSea, due to their reliance on cache updates.
Finally, The Sandbox emphasized that its platform is the only official source to verify the current status of avatars, as these are dynamic NFTs that can change over time. Information on other websites or apps may not be up-to-date if the corresponding cache has not been refreshed.
