The Sandbox launched a Season’s Greetings 2025 Advent Calendar NFT priced at 20 $SAND, designed as a single-pass seasonal experience for platform users. Running from December 1 to December 24 with daily unlocks and collectible rewards, the initiative aims to broaden access and shift engagement away from large prize pools. The release situates the Advent Calendar within a wider strategic pivot and a year of platform updates and partnerships.

Advent Calendar NFT: mechanics and rewards

The Advent Calendar NFT serves as an access pass to a life-sized Advent Calendar inside The Sandbox world, where each numbered portal opens daily at 14:00 UTC from December 1 to December 24. Missed quests remain available until December 31 at 14:00 UTC, and completing a daily mini-game or light puzzle triggers automatic delivery of that day’s reward. Participants can collect 24 distinct winter-themed digital items created by 13 contributing metaverse artists, including Pandapops, Julio Aikiman, Alina, MJ and VieVoxx.

The final reward on December 24 is a limited-edition Cozy Yéti Avatar, granted to players who complete the final mini-game. This calendar is not just a collection item but serves as a pass to unlock a series of engaging daily mini games and collectible treasures throughout December, culminating on Christmas Eve,” according to The Sandbox.

Strategic pivot, corporate updates and platform context

The Advent Calendar reflects a pivot from spectacle-driven, high-prize events toward accessible, collectible-centric engagement, moving away from the 2023 model that featured a 600.000 $SAND prize pool and branded collaborations with large intellectual properties. The new approach lowers entry friction via a modest mint cost and by removing asset-ownership requirements for participation.

This shift follows internal restructuring in August 2025 that included executive changes—Robby Yung assumed the CEO role—and the consolidation of operations to nine key office locations. Management also announced investment in new AI tools to streamline game creation and moderation, with these changes arriving amid a sustained market correction in which the $SAND token has declined by more than 95% from its 2021 all-time high.

The calendar complements a year of iterative product work and seasonal programming, as Alpha Season 5 featured more than 40 experiences and distributed over $1 million in $SAND and NFT rewards. Alpha Season 6 introduced a Premium Pass priced at 30 $SAND, a 250.000 $SAND prize pool and exclusive content tied to Cirque du Soleil.

Core upgrades in Game Client 0.12 added multiplayer systems, adaptive chat, NPC enhancements, Quick Play lobbies and 3D NFT galleries to improve social gameplay and retention. Strategic partnerships and themed experiences continued alongside the calendar release, including Atari’s Sunnyvale V2 and Method Man’s Mefaverse, as well as Black Friday promotions for avatar collections such as The Smurfs, ATEEZ, Attack on Titan and Hellboy.

The Advent Calendar NFT underscores The Sandbox’s move toward experience-driven, collectible-based engagement and leaner operations designed to improve resilience amid token volatility. The next verified milestones are the mint opening on 2025-12-01 and the final reward reveal on 2025-12-24, which will show whether the model increases user participation without relying on large token prize pools.
