TL;DR

  • Tyler won Might & Magic’s first tournament at YGG Play Summit.
  • Ubisoft tested competitive mechanics with conservative $5,000 prize pool.
  • Event served as testing lab for Web3 game balance and design.

Tyler of YGG Esports won the inaugural Might & Magic: Fates tournament at the YGG Play Summit in Manila, taking first place and US$1,500. The TCG’s competitive debut at the Web3 summit confirmed the interest of a major publisher in testing competitive mechanics and in promoting the professionalization of the ecosystem.

Tournament details and result

The event took place from November 19 to 22, 2025 at the SMX Convention Center Aura, Taguig (Manila), as part of the fourth edition of the YGG Play Summit, and featured an invitational field of eight contenders on the Arena stage in a single-elimination bracket with quarterfinals best-of-1 and semifinals and final best-of-3.

Tyler defeated content creator Archer Perez in the final and took home US$1,500 from a total prize pool of US$5,000. Tyler has nine years of experience in card games and more than US$100,000 in prior earnings in Hearthstone.

Might & Magic: Fates was presented as a TCG—digital collectible card game—where players generate resources and summon allies to defeat the opposing hero. Many participants chose decks from the Haven faction, indicating a defensive inclination in the game’s initial meta, and the structure and choices of the professionals offered an early testbed to adjust balance and design.

Sylvain Loe Mie, Executive Producer at Ubisoft, summed up the studio’s intent:

“We believe that building a great TCG starts with creating a fresh experience, driven by innovative and deep game mechanics that still feel familiar and welcoming to long-time fans of the genre.”

Mike Ovecka, Head of Esports at YGG, added:

The YGG Play Summit continues to prove itself as the heart of competitive Web3 gaming. The energy around our tournaments this year speaks for itself, and having a major publisher like Ubisoft showcase a new title at the Summit further validates Web3 esports as a high-impact segment of the broader gaming ecosystem.

Implications for market and institutional actors

Ubisoft’s participation and exposure at a mass event represent an early validation of the title’s competitive and economic potential within the Web3 universe; however, the size of the prize pool (US$5,000) places the initial investment at a conservative level compared to traditional esports standards.

For treasuries and operators, the relevant operational takeaway is the combination of editorial support and live meta testing, which facilitates the evaluation of community liquidity, possible monetization models and tournament scalability.

The YGG Play Summit also incorporated training initiatives in its Skill District, such as no-code creation workshops, which contributes to building local human capital and can reduce supply frictions for Web3 projects looking to outsource development or hiring in the region.

Tyler’s victory marks a first competitive milestone for Might & Magic: Fates and confirms the role of the YGG Play Summit as a testing laboratory for Web3 titles. The next reference to watch is the GAM3 Awards ceremony on November 21, 2025, which will continue to highlight priorities and winners of the ecosystem.
