TL;DR
- Troves are new in-game items representing goods and services from Upland’s virtual properties and structures.
- A dual system exists where most Troves are account-bound, but a tradable class enables a player economy.
The blockchain metaverse Upland, which centers on city building, is adding a new gameplay component called Troves. This feature is designed to deepen the virtual experience by creating stronger connections between properties, structures, and player objectives.
Troves serve as in-game items that represent the results of services, goods, and cultural actions inside Upland’s neighborhoods. Each Trove is linked to a specific structure. Cafés, fire stations, and markets are examples of buildings that generate these items. Players acquire Troves by visiting these locations with their Block Explorer character.

Other activities, such as maintaining plants, also yield Troves. The system is prepared for future expansions, with more methods for obtaining Troves expected later.
Troves in Quests and Player Economy
These items are central to quest mechanics. Game characters known as Residents will ask players for specific combinations of Troves. A request might involve gathering Coffees, Milks, and Fire Extinguishers. Completing these tasks allows a player to form a connection with an Uppie character, which advances the development of a neighborhood.
A dual system governs Trove ownership. The majority of Troves are account-bound and cannot be exchanged between players. However, a separate category of tradable Troves exists. These can be sold or swapped with other participants, establishing a secondary economic layer and promoting strategic cooperation.
