TL;DR

  • Aavegotchi launches an auto-battler beta where players assemble squads for combat.
  • The “free spirits” system allows play without owning an NFT, lowering the entry barrier.
  • Upcoming tournaments will offer rewards in the $GHST token.

The Aavegotchi project announced the launch of the Gotchi Battler Beta through its Discord channel. The update introduces an auto-battler where players assemble squads of Aavegotchis and execute special moves in combat. The beta is now available for public access on the website gotchibattler.com.

Alongside the beta, a single-player campaign mode was implemented. This mode allows users to train their teams through structured missions. The feature serves as a practice field before participating in multiplayer competitions. Players can develop strategies and familiarize themselves with the game’s mechanics.

Immediate Access Without Needing to Own an NFT

The game also enabled “free spirits.” This system allows anyone to start playing without first needing to buy or own an Aavegotchi NFT. Users can experiment with gameplay and test characters before committing capital. The design aims to lower entry barriers for new players.

The progression system tracks player advancements across different sessions. Integrated tournaments set the stage for competitive events. Aavegotchi indicated that rewards in the $GHST token will soon be incorporated for upcoming competitions. These prizes aim to attract participants and test the mode’s balance in live conditions.

Aavegotchi operates as an open-source, community-owned NFT gaming protocol on the Base network. The ghost-like Aavegotchi avatars combine DeFi staking with gameplay since their creation in 2020. The project completed a full migration to the Layer 2 Base last year.

Other recent updates included the launch of Gotchi Guardians on Steam in July 2025. The project also distributed part of its treasury on January 7, 2026, and updated Gotchi Guardians to version 1.3.0 last October. The current beta represents the next phase in expanding the Aavegotchi gaming ecosystem. Players who access it now have the opportunity to hone their strategies before the start of the first tournaments with significant prizes.
