TL;DR

  • Pixels prepares to launch Stacked, a platform redefining the play-to-earn model.
  • Stacked uses blockchain data to verify player quality for other games.
  • The team plans to integrate Stacked slowly, replacing current taskboard functions.

The Pixels team is preparing to unveil Stacked, a new platform designed to redefine the play-to-earn (P2E) model within the cryptocurrency ecosystem. During a recent question-and-answer session, the game’s founder, Luke, revealed that the launch of this tool is imminent, with a detailed presentation scheduled for the next two weeks.

The central premise of Stacked addresses the historical difficulty of executing a sustainable P2E system. Luke explained that despite the challenges, the team has dedicated the last year and a half to developing a solution that benefits players, the game, and the ecosystem at large.

The platform seeks to use blockchain data to verify user engagement and quality, allowing other games to reward Pixels players without needing to expose their identity. Owning assets like land (NFT Lands) or a VIP subscription in Pixels acts as a “proof of humanity” and a valuable spending signal for other projects.

Stacked seeks to connect the game with the crypto ecosystem

Luke emphasized that the utility of ownership in the crypto space will extend beyond virtual avatars or plots of land. The real value, from his perspective, will lie in owning pieces of the protocols themselves. Under this logic, Stacked will initially operate on an earn-only model.

Players will be able to accumulate rewards, potentially including $vPIXEL, and will have the option to spend them in an integrated store within the application rather than constantly withdrawing them, a mechanism designed to encourage token locking over immediate selling.

This strategy also addresses the current functionality of the Taskboard, the game’s main economic driver. The team believes that, although it is a sensitive and central tool, its current implementation is not ideal. The long-term vision involves the Stacked system gradually taking over the Taskboard’s functions, but only after conducting exhaustive testing to avoid negative effects on the game’s economy. The team models all internal rewards in US dollars, which makes the system agnostic to fluctuations in the price of the $PIXEL token.

On the near horizon, Pixels also plans to introduce a new “endgame” feature with more content, improve the experience for new users, and revamp the payment system. In parallel, Chubkins, another of its projects, is already in early access on Google Play, and its geographic availability is expected to expand in April. Despite skepticism from some who consider that “the game is dead,” Luke assures that the game’s economy is in its best state yet and that, after consolidating the fundamentals, the next phase will focus on growth.
