Roblox Announces In-Game Payments Integration with XRP

Roblox, the online gaming platform with more than 200 million monthly active users, has taken a big step towards cryptocurrency adoption by integrating XRP, the cryptocurrency associated with Ripple, as a payment method for in-game purchases.

This measure, announced through BitPay on October 17, 2023, seeks to expand payment options for its user base, which includes around 44% of players under 13 years of age.

Roblox’s move reflects the video game industry’s growing fascination with cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. Users of the platform have shown an active interest in spending in-game, accumulating approximately $773 million in purchases during the first quarter of 2023.

By adding XRP as a payment option, Roblox gives you a more diversified and flexible way to spend on your favorite games.

Additionally, the collaboration between BitPay, a trusted cryptocurrency payment processor, and Xsolla, the platform in charge of managing payments in Roblox games, will facilitate the integration of Players.

This partnership is not new, as BitPay and Xsolla have been working together since 2014, when they began accepting payments in Bitcoin (BTC), marking a milestone in the adoption of cryptocurrencies in the gaming industry.

PayPal Joins The Game

This initiative not only involves the integration of XRP, but also the introduction of payments in PayPal USD (PYUSD) in September 2023, further expanding payment options in the gaming ecosystem.

This makes cryptocurrencies more accessible to a broader and more diverse audience.

Roblox integrates XRP as in-game payment method

Roblox’s adoption of XRP not only represents a milestone in the evolution of transactions within online games, but also signals a growing convergence between the world of cryptocurrencies and the enthusiastic community of gamers around the world.

As the video game industry continues to explore new ways to integrate blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies, we are likely to see more innovations that change the way players interact with their favorite virtual worlds.
