Over the past few years, the Sky Mavis validator has processed cost-free transactions for all new Ronin Wallet users, as well as for holders of Axie collectibles and Axie Land NFTs. However, on October 9, this free transaction feature will be discontinued, meaning that non-sponsored transactions will now incur a small cost in RON, amounting to approximately 0.01 RON.
How Will Transactions Work in Ronin?
Sponsored transactions will be carried out through a double-signature process: the first signature belongs to the user, while the second belongs to the sponsor. From the user’s perspective, these transactions will appear gas-free, simplifying the onboarding process. Once sponsored transactions are operational, game studios are expected to leverage this feature to cover their new users’ gas expenses, contributing to a smoother integration into the ecosystem.
The mechanism for sponsored transactions involves several steps: the user initiates a transaction, Ronin Waypoint sends a validation request to a sponsoring service, this service verifies the user’s eligibility, and if approved, the fee is nullified in the user interface. Finally, the transaction, signed by both parties, is submitted to the Ronin network.
With the launch of this feature, Sky Mavis has decided to discontinue the free transaction feature, as its original mission has been accomplished. The new Ronin’s technology is seen as more versatile for other parties interested in sponsoring users’ gas fees and is expected to require less maintenance in the future. To facilitate this transition, all new Ronin Waypoint users will receive five sponsored transactions from Sky Mavis upon account creation, which they can use for various purposes, such as swapping and sending tokens
